Hi, I’m Therése Baron and I am the founder, president and head chef of Baron’s International Kitchen. For years I had been working in small start up businesses in the telecommunications and computer industry as a Marketing Executive. When the “dot com bubble” burst in the early 2000's, the start up businesses I was working for found themselves in difficult financial times and either had significant workforce reductions or simply folded. After being laid off twice in a two year period I decided to take my future into my own hands and start up my own small business.
At this time, my spouse accepted a position at Marist College so we relocated north from Sloatsburg in Rockland County New York to Rhinecliff in Dutchess County, New York. Shortly after we purchased a house near Stone Ridge, New York in Ulster County located in the heart of the beautiful Hudson Valley.
I decided on a gourmet food business because I come from an ethnically diverse family and have always enjoyed the wide variety of interesting, savory and great tasting ethnic foods that have been produced from recipes of relatives and close family friends passed down for generations. My family is of Scottish, Portuguese and West Indian decent (my parents are originally from Antigua in the Caribbean) and I have extended family from India and Hong Kong. Also, my husband’s family is from Odessa in the former Soviet Union and Britain. My high quality products are made from traditional recipes and I use only traditional ingredients to bring you the best authentic taste and aromas.
When I first got started I worked at Hudson Valley FOODWORKS, a non-profit organization located in the Empire Development Zone in Poughkeepsie, NY. This organization is dedicated to supporting start-ups and growing specialty food businesses and creating jobs for local residents. The organization has become a national model for “kitchen incubators” or shared-use commercial kitchens as tools for redevelopment in the Hudson Valley. Since opening in 1998, Hudson Valley FOODWORKS has helped start or expand over 100 specialty food businesses.
I was among the first in my family to graduate from college and graduate school. I have two Master’s Degrees one in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Hofstra University and the other in Experimental Psychology and Statistical Methods from Long Island University. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree from Lehman College and my Associate’s Degree from New York University.
I am always happy to answer any questions about the business or our gourmet products, just visit our Contact Us page or stop by my blog.
